【basel 2017] Patek Philippe Calatrava Azulejos

At the Baselworld Watch & Jewellery Show 2017, PatekPhilippe launched two Calatrava limited timepieces, each of which is equipped with a 240 automatic movement and a special craft. The craft referred to here is the decoration technique that Patek Philippe considers to be of great cultural and historical significance and carry forward.

Patek Philippe’s new Calatrava rare craft watch is created with rare enamel art. The beautiful portrait on the face is even more exciting

In this context, Patek Philippe launched two Azulejos rare craft watches, Calatrava 5089G-061 fishing on the Taiga River and Calatrava 5089G-062 harvest today. These two watches are also the first time that Patek Philippe has used the enamel art to interpret the ‘Azulejos’ tile pattern. The so-called Azulejo refers to the common tiles in Portugal. Craftsmen use a mosaic-like style to arrange the tiles into large murals. Painting images in this art form on the faceplate is undoubtedly opening up a new field for this long-lasting art of enamel painting. The craftsman also adds different blue enamel glazes to the faceplate layer by layer, painting an image that was originally a mural in such a small space. Each layer of enamel must be fired in a kiln at 850 degrees Celsius. The craftsman uses illusion drawing skills to simulate the effect of tiles, making the face plate seem to be composed of many tiny tiles. The whole process takes a long time and must be very focused to achieve the fine enamel paintings and ensure the patterns are beautiful and evergreen.

Patek Philippe 240 Automatic Slim Anniversary Movement

These two watches are paired with the above-mentioned beautiful enamel, so the visual effects in the end are very attractive and pleasing to the eye. In addition, this watch is made of 18K white gold, with a face plate made of 18K gold and painted with enamel painted Azulejo tiles. Among them, 5089G-061 is decorated with ‘fishing on the river Taigas’, while the other 5089G-062 watch is decorated with ‘harvesting today’. The bottom cover of the sapphire glass case is protected by a hinged cover, which displays the finely processed details of the 240 automatic winding ultra-thin anniversary movement. The movement itself is equipped with a 22K gold micro-disc. Such a masterpiece with a black alligator strap and a white gold pin buckle.
